*06-MY RESCUE
(Mindy Johnson, John Nanni)

Oh God please help me now
I’ve fallen too far and I don’t know how
To get out of this awful mess I’m in
How did I fall so deep into sin?

Just when I thought I was going strong
was reading the word and then came along
This awful mess that swept me off my feet
How did I fall so fast in defeat? But

Jesus, you come at my rescue
You say, “Child, I have never ever left you
I’ll show you the way, just take my hand
Trust in me, I’ll lead you to the promised land.”

Oh God I did not see
Didn’t realize what happened to me
I ignored you way too long
I didn’t know I was that far gone

A perfect saint I will never be
I could never earn your love for me
Satan whispers wicked lies
tries to fool me with his disguise, but

Jesus, you come at my rescue
You say, “Child, I have never ever left you
Just take my hand, remember I am the way,
Trust in me, you have the power to say...”
The power to say, Oh say

Satan go away, go away, go away
Satan go away from me
I’m saved, I am loved by the power of his blood
You have no power over me

Satan go away, go away, go away
Satan go away from me
I’m saved, I’m alive by Christ crucified
You have no power over me

Jesus, you come at my rescue
You say, “Child, I have never ever left you
I’ll show you the way, just take my hand
Trust in me, I’ll lead you to the promised land

Oh, you’re my rescue
Oh, you’re my rescue
You say, “Child, I never left you
Oh, you’re my rescue

Behind the Song

I think many of us could say we have had a time in our lives where we did something, said something foolish and needed a rescue.

Perhaps we were even reading the Bible on a "regular" basis.
But all of a sudden, we come to the realization that...uh oh...we need help.
What happened?!  How did I get here?!

And one of the things I absolutely love about our Savior is that no matter how we got in this mess...He comes to our rescue.

Satan is a crafty liar.  He knows our weak areas and he attacks those with whisper after whisper.

When we fall prey to his deception and start to "earn our salvation" we start to lose sight of our desperate need of a Savior.

Again and again and again we cry out to Jesus and He rescues us.  He never gets tired.  He never gives up on us.

He warns us of the power of Satan, he himself was tempted for 40 days in the wilderness.  He never gave in to temptation.  He was always always vertically, spiritually connected to His Father.  He was never alone.

However, He shows us that with the power of His blood, we can call off Satan and rebuke him.  We can't do it apart from him.  But with Christ Jesus, we can call off Satan and his minions.

I love the bridge to this song.  Spiritual warfare is real.  There is a battle raging for our souls.  And I believe these words, "Satan, go away go away..." when spoken with conviction and connection, has true spiritual power.
