It’s difficult to know where to start when I need to talk about myself.
Do I talk about life in Ohio until I was 16?
Do I talk about moving to Franklin, TN?
What about my experience at Middle Tennessee State University?
I taught music at a handful of different schools, is that important?
I guess now that you know a few things, I’ll start where I am now.
I am married to the most amazing man on the planet.
Jeff is a very busy but very loyal, loving and extremely giving in so many ways- head of our household. I introduce him that way because I believe God intended him to have that position of authority. It doesn’t make me a doormat, what it does do is illustrate the relationship that Christ has for his church, his people. The leader leads by selfless giving. Selfless? You bet. Even though he writes music himself, he wanted to give me the opportunity to share my music. Me, my music, not his.
You can read more about what I think about the chief I chose to marry in the Follow You Waltz.
I have two wonderful children. Walter is 9 and Carrie is 7. They actually got to be a part of this album, they did some handclaps for Two Sides.
I think motherhood is an amazing gift that continues to teach and remind me that life is better when you live for something greater than yourself.
One of the greatest lessons I have learned is that I am not in control. God protects my children and I have to trust him. Walter has allergies including a somewhat severe allergy to peanuts. I was so afraid of letting go and trusting that school would be safe for him. I wrote Better Hands after the first couple days of kindergarten. A good friend reminded me to trust him, “He is in better hands than you could give him.” Thank you, Jill.
A regular day for me would include starting with a cup of coffee, black, and checking my email. My husband and I have a side business that keeps us challenged, 4Truth Web Design. I try to stay on top of any content management needs our clients may have. I also try to stay on top of laundry and dishes as well, but how DO they continue to be endless?! I will be the first to admit that I do not always remember or prioritize my day well enough to include a good chunk of time to reading the Bible.
I did a great Bible study last spring, the Beth Moore study on James. In that study she challenges anyone to memorize the book. It’s only 5 chapters, but I am still working on it.
I like to run, but I find it harder than it used to be to get my tail out the door. I have run two marathons and three half marathons. I think running a marathon has taught me what perseverance should look like. I can apply that to my faith. It’s a race. Not against other people. But a race to the finish line. My goal, to keep going.
“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial. For when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life which God has promised to those who love him.”
James 1:12
